Why is a Business Blog Important?

It’s hard to believe that September is almost over. Today I was trying to think of a topic that might be interesting but also might hammer home the idea of why having a business blog is important in a way that may not have been covered. And then I thought of a couple of different experiences that my husband and I have had in restaurants.

Let’s look at the typical fast food restaurant.

Typical Fast Food Restaurant

People go to a fast food restaurant because they don’t have the time for a typical restaurant experience and maybe they don’t want to tip a member of waitstaff. So you are expecting the basic experience. At your typcail fast food restaurant, they:

  • Takes your order
  • Gives you your food
  • May refill your drink if you go up and request it (if there’s no self-service station)

Otherwise you have to throw out your own trash, they rarely come and ask you if everything is okay. If there’s a problem with your food, you have to go up and tell them. But that’s what you come to expect from typical fast food.

Chick-Fil-A

At Chick-Fil-A, the staff:

  • Takes your order
  • Gives you a container and invites you to sit down
  • Brings you your food to your table or hands you your bag to the side.
  • Comes to your table and offers to refill your drinks and takes your trash for you.
  • Asks you if your food is okay or if you need anything.

How Does This Relate to the Importance of a Business Blog?

So, what do these restaurants and a business blog have in common? Well, if we imagine the two restaurants as two different businesses with websites, I would imagine they would look like this:

Typical Fast Food Restaurant Chick-Fil-A
  • prices
  • times of operation
  • phone number
  • address
  • prices
  • times of operation
  • phone number
  • address
  • a blog with tips and tricks for their items
  • manager name

My point is that a business website without a business blog is like a typical fast food restaurant. It gives your visitors the bare minimum. Nothing extra, nothing special, it’s a website like all of the other websites without a business blog.

But a website with a business blog is like Chick-Fil-A. You get everything that you get from the typical fast food restaurant. Plus, you get the experience very similar to a sit down restaurant. All because the business loves their visitors and wants to give them the very best experience possible.
