If you’ve noticed, I am a firm believer in blogs. They are great for engaging visitors and giving them helpful information. That being said, blogs can also be a huge hindrance if you don’t use them the right way. Below I’m going to look at some of the common blogging mistakes I see regularly so that you can avoid making them.

Blogging Mistake 1 – Text Walls

Oh my goodness, I hate running into these. What’s a text wall? Well, it’s when a blog has just a bunch of words with no discernable paragraphs to break it up. You have no idea where it begins or ends and where the heck it’s going.

Let me tell you a little secret: People don’t have time for that. They want to read your blog posts and move on with their day.

Mistake 2 – Using Your Blog Just for Advertising

Now, I’m not going to say that you can’t announce a great sale or tell them about a new service you’re offering. However, this should not be the main reason for your blog. Let’s think of YouTube. Chances are that you get annoyed when those advertisements pop up, right? The same thing goes for your blog. A few ads here and there are fine. Stuffing it full of ads, not so much.

Mistake 3 – Not Checking Spelling & Grammar

Finally, take some time and check your spelling and grammar. Heck, with Grammarly, it’s so easy. Of course, something might slip through once in a while. We’re human. However, you can’t expect people to take you seriously as a business person if your blog looks unprofessional.

These are just three main blogging mistakes that I see in my own experience. And you know what? I don’t even just see them in business blogs. I can’t tell you how many times I see articles posted by people who mainstream media with these kinds of errors in them.

So, avoid making these mistakes. There’s a good chance that your visitors will read your blogs and come back for more.
