Having a website blog is a great choice. It helps you bring in more customers, it shows that you are interested in their needs, and it helps greatly with organic traffic. However, even when you have a blog on your website it can hurt your business if you aren’t doing it correctly.

Below are 6 business website blog types that are going to drive away sales and traffic from your business.

The Salesman Business Website Blog

Now, don’t get me wrong. Having an occasional blog about a sale or a new product on your blog is fine. But the key word is ‘occasional’. Having a blog full of salesy stuff is like buying a newspaper that is all advertisements or watching a movie that is all previews. Booooring!

The Run-on Sentence Writer’s Blog

This is something I often see when I’m on blogs. People write sentences that go on and on and don’t really say anything. This is one of the first things that we learn when we are in school. Don’t write run-on sentences! A run-on sentence is kind of like that boring teacher you had in school. If it goes on too long, people are going to tune it out and leave the page.

The Logophile’s Business Website Blog

Chances are that you don’t know what that word means. I honestly didn’t know the right word for it either. But it illustrates my point perfectly. A logophile is someone who loves words. This person loves using big words and it often means that the people who are reading their blog may feel dumb. So, this doesn’t mean that you can’t ever use technical or big words. Just do what I did and give them the definition. The last thing that you want to do is make them look up a word.

The Online Novelist’s Business Blog

Now, I should clarify this. I don’t mean someone who is writing a novel shouldn’t keep a blog. What I am saying is that many novels have extremely long paragraphs without a lot of break up. A blog isn’t the place to write a novel, as it were. A blog is where you provide helpful information to those who are reading, broken down with subheadings and bullet points.

The “Oh yeah, I have a blog” Blogger’s Blog

Look at your blog. When was the last time that you posted something? Recently I visited a website where the last blog update was back in June. The sad thing is that when you forget to update your blog, you are losing opportunities. If you are on the WordPress platform, the great thing is that you can set your blogs up to post far into the future.

The Platformer’s Business Website Blog

Finally, the last type of blogger I am going to talk about is what I’d like to call The Platformer. This is the person who created their blog for their business, but they don’t use it as such. They use it as their political platform. Now, I’m not talking about mentioning COVID-19 and how you’re protecting your customers. I’m talking about posting a lot of political or religious beliefs on your blog. Unless it’s directly related to your business, such as having a blog for your religious store, it doesn’t belong on your blog.

These are 6 types of business website blog that you should avoid if you want your blog to help your business. If you don’t have the time to do the blogging yourself, blogging is one of the services that we offer. Simply contact us here and we’ll be glad to talk to you and find out how we can help.
