A blog for your business is kind of like fire. It’s the right tool when it’s used correctly. But when it’s used incorrectly, it can seriously do some damage. You definitely want your blog to be a yay because that means people are going to keep coming back to it. Unfortunately, many blogs out there that I see are nays. They left me confused and frustrated and made me close them quickly.
So here are three reactions that are nays that you want to avoid.
This Blog Made Me Hit the Wall
I’ve mentioned before how one of the biggest mistakes that you can make is to have a wall of text. If you notice in my blogs, I always break them up with subheadings or bullet points, or sometimes both. This is important. Whenever I see a wall of text, I leave the site. I don’t have time for it.
I’m So Confused!
Have you ever turned on the television and somehow it’s on the Spanish channel? Or maybe it’s a science channel and they are talking about something you don’t understand. There’s a very popular subreddit called r/explainlikeimfive. This is where people can ask questions and get answers.
Your blog shouldn’t talk down to your visitors but you also should remember that you know what you’re talking about, they don’t. So, if you use a lot of jargon and words they may not understand, make sure that you take the time to explain.
All They Want Is My Money!
Yes, we get it. You are writing your blog to bring in more customers. But you don’t want to open a magazine or newspaper to see that it’s all advertisements. If you went to a movie in the theater you wouldn’t be happy to see all previews and ads for the snack bar. The same goes for your blog. Yes, you can have an ad once in a while. But mostly you should use your blog for educating your readers and helping them.
These are three reactions to your blog that you want to avoid at all costs. Otherwise, your blog isn’t going to do your business any good and you’ll be wasting your time.
